Advertisements And Social Media Make Up Majority Of...
Advertisements and social media make up majority of American culture identity. These two elements make up what society is today. Advertisements appeal to consumers through sexism and racist comments or gestures. Social media creates a platform where people are not true to themselves and allows them to become fake on the internet. These two elements make up the negative side of Americaââ¬â¢s identity. Americaââ¬â¢s identity is shown through the marketers and the consumers in America; how people carry themselves and present themselves in America also represents Americaââ¬â¢s identity. America is being ran by advertisements and commercials. Each advertisement or commercial has a subliminal message and are trying to peek at the consumerââ¬â¢s subconscious toâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦A couple of the fast food chain like ââ¬Å"Kentucky Fried Chickenâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Burger Kingâ⬠target African American people because of the stereotype that black people love fried c hicken. In the ââ¬Å"Kentucky Fried Chickenâ⬠commercial there is a little African American girl who lives in a different part of the world, looks like Japan, throughout the commercial is shows her struggling with the Japanese culture. Until one day a Japanese girl approaches her and licks her fingers (finger licking good) and tells the African American girl to follow her to ââ¬Å"Kentucky Fried Chickenâ⬠. At the end of this commercial it shows the African American girl happy and smiling while she is enjoying her chicken with her new friends. However, commercials do not only target the stereotypes relating to what African Americans like to eat but also the stereotypes of how African American speak. In American, each race has its own stereotypes and assumptions how each race acts. Furthermore, the African American race has the stereotype of improper grammar, grills, and the use of a fist bump. In a series of commercial ads from Chicago Lake-Liquors, this company targets t he African American community by portraying white speaking and acting how society portrays the average African American person would act or speak.
